ABOUT ADVENTURES AROUND SCOTLAND
Adventures Around Scotland is a travel blog with a mixture of fun, practical and inspiring ideas for your trip to Scotland. It is not another guide simply listing the must see attractions, instead it is full of first hand accounts, honest reviews, hidden gems and useful information from someone that lives here.
I'm Susanne, a native Scot who loves to tour the world and my own backyard looking for new adventures. When I'm not travelling, I'm dreaming of travelling. Through travel I have been lucky enough to experience once in a lifetime moments, meet amazing people and visit some of the most breathtaking places. It is this combination that keeps me dreaming about my next adventure.
I haven't been everywhere in Scotland, but it's on my list...
MY SCOTTISH TRAVELS
In many ways I have been exploring Scotland my whole life although I've only recently started to share my adventures on this blog. Growing up in Glasgow I was fortunate enough to frequently escape the city and spent most of my summer holidays at our family caravan in Ayrshire. For many years we had no electricity or running water and this rustic, basic way of living helped to develop my love of the simple things in life. Days were spent following country trails, discovering abandoned overgrown houses, climbing hills, exploring caves, building sandcastles and searching for treasures on the beach. My adventurous imagination and love of the outdoors was born and as an adult it has continued to grow.
Aged 20 I had my first real adult adventure in Scotland when I undertook an unforgettable roadtrip with my best friend to Skye. This was my first proper endeavor into the Highlands and even to this day when I drive through Glencoe I can still recall that initial sense of eerie wonderment with absolute clarity. This area has now become my second home after my parents bought a house nearby and I am lucky enough to spend a great deal of time in a place that people travel from all over the world to visit.
My travels have taken me across the country by boat, train, car and campervan through every region of Scotland, although I've still not visited even a fraction of the places I want to see. To keep me focused I've started a bucket list of some of the things I really want to do and have already ticked my first one off by getting to the top of the Forth Bridge. My current journey involves finding the best and most original Scotland has to offer and hopefully inspiring you to find your own once in a lifetime moments here.

My WORLD TRAVELS
Although this blog focuses on my adventures around Scotland, I am equally passionate about having adventures around the world. I definitely consider myself a traveller rather than a tourist and while I do take some time to visit the must see attractions, you are much more likely to find me exchanging stories with locals in a little cafe or heading off the beaten track just to see what's round the corner.
My first real adventure abroad also involved a roadtrip. Travelling through California, Arizona and Nevada I got to experience the highs and lows of life in the USA. From a close encounter with a fatal gang shooting in LA to a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon I returned home with a suitcase full of stories and a serious dose of the travel bug.
Since that first memorable venture into the unknown I've been fortunate enough to live out my travel dreams across the globe and meet some fascinating people along the way. My favourite memories are the unplanned ones, the ones that couldn't be replicated even if you tried, the ones you only find by engaging with locals and heading away from the tourist haunts. From sitting watching cartoons in the living room of a family in Laos while their Ladyboy son gave me a manicure to dancing with the groom at a Berber wedding in the Atlas mountains of Morocco, I could probably write a book full of adventurous stories, maybe one day I will...
