As you know I was recently picked to be part of #Team 14 one of the official Bloggers for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
It has been a bit of a whirlwind week but I thought I would share my journey so far...
I didn't receive anything telling me who the other 13 members of #Team14 were but thanks to good old social media we have been discovering each other one by one. It's a bit like a less weird version of Big Brother when you have no idea who you will be sharing your next couple of months with and have to keep re-introducing yourself each time someone new appears.
They all seem like a friendly bunch and have some great blogging and writing experience between them. As I'm the only travel blogger I feel a bit like the odd one out but despite my sporting and cultural inadequacies they have kindly accepted me into the team nonetheless!
At the last count I think there were 11 of us so a few more still to track down. I really hope we get to meet in person at some point along our blogging way.
Despite not being a celebrity, rich or a royal I received my first ever VIP invite to the opening night of the new Glasgow 2014 superstore in George Square on 27th June. I hope I can make it just so I can see how it feels to be one of those people whose name IS on the list for a change.
I was also kindly invited by Strathmore water to a blogger/media event with the chance to get in the pool and get tips from Scottish Commonwealth swimmer Robbie Renwick. This is an amazing personal opportunity but sometimes you have to be honest and admit that it is not quite the right event for your particular blog.
I read very good advice on a travel blog recently about saying no to things that don't fit in with your blogging values or brand just because you get invited along to them or get offered things for free. Businesses have expectations as do your readers and I don't believe in disappointing either for the sake of a freebie.
Thankfully two of my much sportier #Team14 mates were happy to oblige and I look forward to their blog posts about the day.
Yesterday I had my first meeting at Commonwealth HQ with some quite important people! We were talking about the logistics of me telling the behind the scenes story of the Opening Ceremony which sounds very exciting but trying to find the balance of following the preparations without letting any secrets away! There were some amazing possibilities being discussed and I am now waiting to find out the outcome of the meeting about the meeting! In the meantime I am thinking of creative ways of covering the topic over the coming weeks, stay tuned...
The final thing I have been working on this week is a secret one month to go challenge to write a creative blog post based around a secret word which will be revealed this Monday, 23rd June, exactly one month before the start of The Games.
Phew, so that about sums up my week and hopefully gives you an insight behind the scenes of being a #Team14 Blogger and the work involved. The next few weeks are going to keep me busy but I will try to do a personal update each Friday to let you know how it's all going.
At the beginning of June I was chosen as one of the official bloggers for the XX Commonwealth Games that will be held in Glasgow from 23rd July to 3rd August 2014.
