Things to do in Central Scotland

Central Scotland encompasses towns such as Falkirk, Linlithgow and Alloa and one of Scotland’s most historic cities, Stirling.  Whilst Stirling is a popular choice for visitors who want to visit Stirling Castle the rest of the area is not usually at the top of people’s bucket lists but I reckon it should be.

For Outlander fans there are lots of filming sites here including the stunning Linlithgow Palace, the formidable Blackness Castle and and the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway Station, where Claire waved off Frank as she left to help in the war.

The majestic Kelpies attract visitors from all over the world to the town of Falkirk.  They were created by sculptor Andy Scott who has several pieces in Central Scotland and you can read about the Andy Scott trail below.  While you are in Falkirk it’s also worth visiting the Falkirk Wheel, a rotating boat lift and a pretty impressive structure!

The city of Stirling is perfect if you want to learn more about Scotland’s history.  Stirling Castle is historically one of Scotland’s most important castles and the nearby Wallace Monument stands at 67 metres tall and celebrates the life of Sir William Wallace, the views from the top are outstanding.  Another popular stop in the area is the site of the battle of Bannockburn took and using state-of-the-art technology you can experience this important battle for yourself.

There is much to see in Central Scotland, it’s an area so full of history and activities you are unlikely to ever get bored.
