Outer Hebrides

Have you Googled beaches in Scotland?  Have you spotted the Caribbean-like beaches with untouched white sand and crystal clear turquoise water?  You’ll find these in the Outer Hebrides, a chain of islands off the west coast of Scotland. These islands are remote, rugged and utterly beautiful. You can walk barefoot along the beach and not meet another soul, artists set up workshops here to work in solitude, inspired by the landscape.  People take their campers and travel from north to south or vice versa, wild camping in secluded bays or by hidden beaches.

Beginning at Lewis and Harris in the north, home to the famous and delicious Stornoway Black pudding, Harris Tweed and the mesmerising Calanais standing stones.  Lewis and Harris are classed as two separate islands although they are actually part of one landmass. The landscape here is jaw-dropping and has to be seen to be believed. The next main islands are North and South Uist which have many Neolithic remains, burial cairns and standing stones and between the two Uists is the small island of Benbecula. The Isles of Barra and Vatersay complete the chain. Barra Airport is the only airport in the world where scheduled flights land on the beach and are timed according to the tide times.

If you want an island escape like no other, where you can relax and let the day go by without seeing another person, where you can witness landscapes like you’ve never seen before the stunning islands of the Outer Hebrides should be at the top of your bucket list.
