Things to do in Fife

With 117 miles of beautiful coastline the Kingdom of Fife is on Scotland’s east coast, just over the bridge from Edinburgh. I’ve spent some time in Fife but nowhere near enough as there is lots to discover. Fife's southerly point begins at the stunning bright red Forth Rail Bridge, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and stretches north east to the Tay Bridge and over to Dundee. St Andrews, with its world famous Old Course and University, is a town I love to explore and St Andrews Castle and the Cathedral are fascinating.

There is a succession of cute fishing villages, collectively named The East Neuk which are perfect for a romantic weekend. Tiny pastel coloured cottages, bustling harbours and top restaurants serving sea food brought in on the boats.

Fife has been a filming location for TV series Outlander several times.  The village of Culross is Outlander’s Cranesmuir and the village of Falkland is used as Inverness.  Other locations include Aberdour Castle, Dysart Harbour And Balgonie Castle.

Dunfermline’s newly opened Carnegie Library and Galleries complete the town’s Heritage Quarter which also houses Dunfermline Abbey, where Robert the Bruce (minus his heart) is buried, the ruins of a palace where King Charles I was born and the last remaining weaver’s cottage in the town, the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie.

Here are some of my finds in Fife so far.
