Things to do in the North West Highlands

Most visitors that explore the north west Highlands fall head over heels in love.  It is a part of the country that I could visit over and over again and was lucky enough to call home for a while.

It is such a huge area that there is always a new hidden gem to find, a breathtaking view to take in or scenic single track road to follow.  The scenery is jaw dropping.  It is vast, wild and absolutely stunning and it is easy to see why this area is so popular.

The majestic Glen Coe, with its dominating mountains, such as the intimidating but rewarding Buachaille Etive Mor, is a massive draw and its an area where I have hiked many times, I find it utterly magical.  The town of Fort William is known as the Outdoor Capital of the UK and is an ideal base if you want to challenge yourself to climb the UK’s highest peak, Ben Nevis.

At the Glenfinnan Viaduct you can watch the steam train which took Harry Potter to Hogwarts.  As you travel further up and west to the coast the scenery changes, from dramatic mountains to white sand beaches and crystal clean water.

The town of Ullapool sits on the shores of Loch Broom and from here you can jump on the ferry to Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides or you can carry on north and follow the North Coast 500 route.

There is so much more I could say but have a look around my blog posts for more ideas.  Whatever you choose, I challenge you to visit the north west Highlands and not love every minute, it is Scotland at its glorious best!
