Things to do in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, is a city packed with historical significance.  The city is overlooked by Edinburgh Castle which sits high up on an extinct volcano in the centre of the Old Town.  The famous Royal Mile leads from the castle down to Holyrood Palace and there are lots of free to enter museums and tours of all kinds, such as free walking tours, literary tours, Harry Potter and Outlander tours and even a ghost bus!

Edinburgh’s New Town is a shopping haven and the beautiful Georgian architecture, with black cast iron railings and grand entrances is impressive and there are many areas of green space such as St Andrews Square and the Princes Street Gardens to relax in.

I have spent a lot of time in this city and love exploring the cobbled closes and old buildings which ooze history and I always discover something new, there is just so much to see!  Edinburgh is compact and easy to explore by foot although it is quite hilly so a more relaxed option is to take a city tour on one of the Hop On Hop Off City Sightseeing buses which stop at all the major attractions, allowing you to jump on and off as much as you please.

Edinburgh deserves its reputation as one of the UK’s top cities and I highly recommend a visit, ideally for at least 2 days, so you can get a proper feel for this wonderful place and everything it has to offer.

Venture to the north side of Waverley Bridge and you'll find the grand Georgian achitecture of the New Town. Not only are the buildings impressive but there is so much more to see.

Although I enjoy walking around cities I must admit that jumping on one of these tour buses is a nice alternative. I managed to see most of the main attractions and hop bank on when i wanted.
